Pomeranian Puppy Potty Training

Pomeranians are intelligent dogs who will learn quickly.

Pomeranians are small, lively dogs, perfect for those living in apartments. Potty training is a crucial first step in teaching pomeranians to be good companion dogs, so owners must work hard to help their puppy learn.

Timing

Because Pomeranians are small dogs, they don't have a lot of bladder control. As puppies, they will need to go outside to go to the bathroom every two or three hours or after they wake up from a nap, finish playing, eat or drink a lot of water.

Signs

Pomeranian puppies will give a sign that they need to go to the bathroom, but it may be subtle. Like other dogs, Pomeranians may sniff the floor in circles or whimper to let their owners know they have to go outside.

Peeing on Command

Training a Pomeranian to pee on command may help to speed up the house training process. This can be done by saying a word or phrase like "go potty" to the dog on every walk and praising the Pomeranian when it goes potty.

Scheduled Feeding and Walks

When a Pomeranian is fed and walked at the same time every day, it will be house broken much more quickly. Pomeranians need to be walked shortly after they eat to avoid accidents.

Crate Training

All dogs, including Pomeranians, like to keep their sleeping place clean. Many owners crate train their dogs so they can put them in a confined space while they are gone without worrying about a mess to clean up when they come home.
