Get A Clearer Copy Of Your Birth Certificate

Computer-generated birth certificates are clearer than copies from microfilm

Depending on when a birth certificate was issued, the copy may not be as clear as one would like. Birth certificates may be hand written, typed or computer generated. Older certificates may only be accessible via microfilm. The quality of the microfilm determines the quality of the birth certificate copy. To obtain a clearer copy of a birth certificate contact the state's Department of Health Services to inquire about a computer-generated certificate.

Instructions

1. Contact your state Department of Health Services office. To locate this office, use a search engine and type in "[state name] department of health services." This search will yield the result you need. Read through the department's website to see if a computer generated birth certificate is available. If you are unsure, call the department to inquire.

2. Request a computer-generated birth certificate. Your state Department of Health will provide a birth certificate order form via their website or office. Complete the order form as thoroughly as possible.

3. Mail the order form with a photocopy of a valid photo identification card and preferred payment method to the department of health. You may also drop the order form and payment off at your local department of health. The department will likely request to see a copy of your valid photo identification card at that time.
