Raising money to start any business requires a good deal of planning, a bit of creativity and persistence. It will usually take time but the more creative you are the more fun it will be. One advantage of working to raise money to start an animal shelter is that people want to help people who are trying to do good things in the world. There are a million animal lovers ready and willing to help anyone who is making the world a better place for our animal friends.
Instructions
1. Create a timeline for raising money. Know how much money you need to raise and set a date as your goal to have collected all you need.
2. Create a business plan that identifies which animals your shelter will take care of. Begin work on finding a location if you do not have one already.
3. Once this is done, brainstorm fundraising activities. Decide if you will advertise for funds or if you will work with local businesses to reach out to animal lovers. Current shelters, veterinarian offices, pet stores and pet grooming services are great resources. You can work with them to raise money through a variety of events including bake sales, donate a doggie wash day or using existing business mailing lists to solicit donations.
4. Create your fundraising marketing plan. You should outline specific activities to be done as well as when you intend to do them.
5. Begin fundraising and keep track of how much each activity brings in. The more money an activity makes the better. Keeping track of this information will allow you to repeat the more successful events and not worry about the ones that did not work so well.
