Rescuing a bichon frise is a rewarding experience. The little white puffballs make excellent companions. They are loyal, fun-loving and affectionate dogs. They don't shed but are not hypoallergenic. Shelters throughout Minnesota take in bichon or bichon mixes as strays or from families that can no longer care for them.
Instructions
1. Foster a bichon for a bichon rescue group. Bichon Frise Club of America, for example, rescues bichons from across the United States. Signing up as a foster home in Minnesota would allow the rescue to save more bichons. Foster homes provide a safe environment for a homeless bichon. Fosters undertake basic behavior training so the bichon will be more desirable to adoptive families.
2. Foster a bichon or bichon mix for a Minnesota-based, all-dog-breed rescue group. All-breed rescue groups do not specialize in one breed but instead help dogs of all shapes and sizes. Find a Minnesota group by searching www.petfinder.com.
3. Contact your veterinarian, groomer or kennel operator and let them know that you would like to rescue a bichon. Families contact pet-care professionals for help "re-homing" their pets. Ask your professional to keep your information so you can help whenever a bichon needs a home.
4. Visit local animal shelters. Minnesota animal shelters are listed by location on www.petfinder.com. Go to the shelters and see if there are any bichons or bichon mixes. Adopt a dog if you find one. You will be saving a life. In the United States, 5 million to 7 million pets are killed in shelters every year. Twenty-five percent are purebred.
5. Craigslist has an active Minnesota pet community. People post dogs that need homes. Occasionally, people post bichons in need.
