Cure Canine Stomach Problems

A dog's stomach problems can have several causes. Dogs are prone to upset stomachs, but often these are nothing to worry about. Most often the situation resolves at home with a little extra attention. However, if your dog hasn't recovered within a few days, if his condition gets worse, or she develops more serious symptoms such as blood in the stool or vomiting, you should take your dog to a veterinarian right away.

Instructions

1. The first step in alleviating your dog's upset stomach is to withhold food for 24 hours. Continue to offer your dog fresh, clean water.

2. At the end of 24 hours, give your dog with a bland meal of chicken and rice. This should be a small portion, about a quarter of the amount of food your dog would normally eat.

3. Give your dog a teaspoon to a tablespoon of plain yogurt between meals. The amount of yogurt will depend on the size of your dog.

4. Provide a second helping of chicken and rice 12 hours after the first meal. Continue to feed him plain yogurt between meals.

5. About 48 hours after your dog began the fast, give her a half portion of the food you normally feed, along with a half portion of chicken and rice. Continue feeding plain yogurt between meals.

6. Repeat the feeding regimen 60 hours into the fast.

7. After 72 hours, return your dog to his regular diet. By this time your dog's upset stomach should have resolved. If it has not, take your dog to the vet.
