Find A Grave In Burlington County New Jersey

Search Burlington County, New Jersey cemeteries online.


Burlington County is one of the oldest established counties in New Jersey. Two of the oldest graves in the county are Elias Boudinot, buried 1821, and Joseph Bloomfield, buried in 1823, both at St. Mary's Episcopal churchyard in Burlington City. Boudinot was the president of the Continental Congress and head of the United States Mint, while Bloomfield served as governor of the state for 10 years. The county is home to two national cemeteries, one located in Beverly with over 41,000 graves and then one in Wrightstown with more than 4,000 graves.


Instructions


1. Search through Internet sites. For sites that have surname search engines try the Burlington County US Genweb and the New Jersey Home Town Locater. If you are not sure of the first name, search by surname. The site will deliver a list of people with the surname and dates. This will narrow the search to a specific person.


2. View listings online that show internment names such as; Burlington County New Jersey Genweb, The Political Graveyard and Internment. This type of site is helpful when you are not sure of the first name. You can search by the last name and in some cases start with the first letter of a surname such as "L" that will list all surnames that begin with that letter.


3. Check obituaries online through nj.com. Find the link for obituaries at the bottom of the page and "click", "Star Ledger" for a listing. You can search prior obituaries up to 12 months. Search the Funeral Home Directory that lists all the funerals in the county. Most funeral homes maintain a list of obituaries up to one year. You will find the name of the cemetery at the end of the obituary.


4. Visit the Burlington County Historical Society that houses a large collection of genealogical information including cemetery listings. The society is located at 457 High Street in Burlington City. The library hours are 1pm to 5pm, Wednesday and Thursday. You can call the society for more information at 609-386-4773.


5. Visit cemeteries in the county and search through headstones. Narrow down your search by finding the town the person lived in or where family members lived. You can obtain a list of cemeteries on the NJ Genweb Internet site by clicking on the second link on the page. It will direct you to a list of all cemeteries and addresses in Burlington County.
