Typical shelters euthanize animals that are not adopted after a period of time.
There are dozens of animal shelters in New Jersey. However, shelters without a no-kill policy euthanize thousands of animals ever year because of the cost of sheltering and caring for homeless animals. No-kill shelters do not euthanize animals, except to end suffering, and are able to do this via donations from the public, networks of foster homes and volunteers.
Animal Adoption Center
Also known as Friends of Camden Animal Shelter, Animal Adoption Center has rescued and adopted out abandoned and unwanted animals since 1990. In addition to this, the center provides spaying and neutering services to prevent further unwanted animals and provides therapeutic sessions to patients in medical and other facilities. Because it operates with a no-kill policy, this organization receives no financial assistance from local or state governments. The center receives most of its revenue from adoption fees and donations.

Lilo's Promise Animal Rescue
Lilo's Promise Animal Rescue houses homeless animals in addition to providing professional training to the dogs in the shelter. The shelter relies on donations, volunteers and foster families to provide the care for its animals. Typically, the shelter rescues dogs from other shelters and not directly from owners. However, the organization does offer to add pet information to the website if the owner contacts the shelter about surrendering a dog. This allows potential adopters to contact owners who can no longer care for their pets.
