Electric fireplaces look real but run on electricity.
Don't let the warm heat and comforting glow of your electric fireplace trick you into thinking that putting out the electric wood burning fireplace is a challenge. Such a fireplace, designed for indoor use, mimics the effect of burning wood and flames but relies on electricity to run it. Putting one out is a snap, and you can choose one of several methods to extinguish the flame on your fireplace when the evening is over. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Turn the "on/off" switch on your electric fireplace to the "off" position. This should be located along the side or the top of the fireplace. Consult your electric fireplace manual to find the location of the "on/off" switch for your model.
2. Unplug the electrical cord from the wall outlet or power strip. Do this in lieu of using the "on/off" switch or in addition to doing so.
3. Remove the battery from your electric wood burning fireplace. The battery lights up the logs and flames to make your fireplace appear functional. Without the battery, your fireplace will not work. Consult your fireplace manual to determine where the battery compartment is for your model and open the door of the battery compartment.
