The Best East Village Restaurants In Nyc

The East Village is home to outstanding wine.

New York's hip East Village has long been home to artists, hippies and punk rockers alike. This vibrant and artistic part of town is also home to many outstanding restaurants; in fact, the East Village contains so many eateries, it can get downright overwhelming. The best of the best in New York's East Village specialize in local organic ingredients, and feature creative, health-conscious dishes and plenty of fine wine. Add this to my Recipe Box.

Counter Restaurant

Counter is a vegetarian bistro in New York's East Village that uses ingredients from their organic rooftop garden whenever possible. A selection of organic wines and spirits is also available. Menu items vary with the season, and have included flatbread pizzas, veggie pot pies, roasted butternut squash ravioli and wild mushroom barley risotto. Owner Deborah Gavito also hosts a weekly Tuesday raw night, where all the food is cooked over extremely low heat in order to retain its nutritional value. A kid's menu is also available at this upscale health-conscious eatery, which was named by Time Out New York as one of the East Village's best restaurants.

The cuisine is described as part Italian and part Spanish, with surprising personal touches by Il Buco's head chef. The eatery uses fresh ingredients from local farmers whenever possible, and also brings imported ingredients from Umbria to use in their culinary creations. Il Buco specializes in gourmet tapas-style appetizers, such as cauliflower-filled ravioli and seared octopus. The daily menu also features soups, risotto, handmade and artisanal pastas and seasonal entrees. Il Buco also features an impressive selection of wines, which Wine Spectator Magazine called "one of the most outstanding restaurant wine lists in the world."
