Clothing For A Chihuahua

There are several reasons to get clothing for your pet chihuahua. The little dogs don’t have very thick skin, and even the long-haired chihuahuas get cold when the weather drops. The clothing keeps them warm. During the hot summer months, dog T-shirts keep your short-haired chihuahua from getting sunburned. Dog boots help protect your little guy's feet from snow, ice and bits of gravel. Plus dressing your chihuahua in new clothes is a lot of fun.

Instructions

1. Measure your dog from the base of his tail to the base of his neck. This measurement determines the length of the coats and shirts you will purchase. Remember that your chihuahua will be more comfortable if the coat is a little loose as opposed to too small.

2. Measure the thickness of your chihuahua’s neck. When you fit your chihuahua for a coat, you should be able to easily slide two fingers, stacked, between the collar and her neck.

3. Make sure that the coat fastens in such a way that your dog’s belly is completely covered. This will keep your dog warm and toasty during the winter and prevent him from getting sunburned in the summer.

4. Use the dog foot measurement chart to determine what size boots you need to order for your chihuahua (see Resources).

5. Make sure that any clothes you purchase are durable and made to withstand the hard wear and tear your little dog will put them through.
