Summer is a wonderful time for students to volunteer their time to worthwhile organizations. Volunteering not only helps those who benefit from the services that are provided but can also be extremely rewarding for those who volunteer. Volunteer Abroad Program
The Institute for Field Research Expeditions Volunteer Abroad Program is a not-for-profit program based in Dallas. According to its website, the Institute For Field Research Expeditions Volunteer Abroad Program conducts and supports authentic field research programs on poverty, ecology, environment, wildlife, disease and other areas affecting our global communities. Its grassroots-style program works directly with the local orphanage, schools and youth groups to assist them in becoming more self-reliant and to ensure successful growth. Volunteers of the Institute for Field Research Expeditions Volunteer Abroad Program are offered language courses, cultural immersion and exotic and diverse travel experiences.

Global Routes
Global Routes is a volunteer organization that is targeted toward teens. According to its website, Global Routes offers teen summer community service programs for high school students finishing ninth through 12th grades, gap-year and semester internships for students 17 years of age and older, and customized programs for schools in Belize, Cambodia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Ghana, India, Nepal, Peru, Tanzania and Thailand. High school-age volunteers participate in three- to five-week summer community service programs to teach children in orphanages, build schools and help people in rural villages. Community service programs include destinations in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean. College-age volunteers will participate in a three-month program designed to teach English abroad or choose from a wide range of other subjects. Volunteers will live with a group supported by a leader and a group of other young volunteers in programs based out of Africa, Asia and Latin America.

Youth Volunteer Corps
The Youth Volunteer Corps of America is a not-for-profit organization which targets volunteers between the ages of 11 and 18. Students can participate in summer volunteering programs as well a programs that are designed to work hand-in-hand with the school-year curriculum. According to the organization's website, children participate in challenging, rewarding and educational volunteer programs that are designed to give back to the community. Projects may last days or weeks at a time. Youth Volunteer Corps operates on the belief that volunteering in a group setting promotes an appreciation and tolerance for diversity and helps instill a feeling of accomplishment.
