There are many ways to meet new friends when you're over 50
As we get older, the way we meet new people changes from when we were in our 20s and 30s. But that doesn't have to stop you from getting out and enjoying life. The best way to meet a new friend is by doing something you enjoy. There are many methods to connect with people if you're over 50. Following are just a few.

1. Join a club. Interested in bowling? Dancing? Games? Fitness? Painting? Many clubs today are started and maintained to cater to the over 50 crowd. You'll bond easier with someone you share common interests with. Check your local community paper or go online to see which activities might interest you.
2. Get to reading. Book clubs accept new members all the time. The only requirement? A love of reading. Find the genre that suits you and get ready for passionate discussion and lots of fun.
3. Attend seminars and lectures, or go back to school. Taking a class here and there not only promotes a youthful outlook but also helps you connect with people that share your love of learning.
4. Get a part-time job if you're retired. If you've been one of the fortunate few who retired early, take advantage of this time to work at a job you've always wanted to do. Maybe you wanted to work in a flower job, or a car dealer, or at a college or school. Many places look forward to hiring someone with the maturity to handle responsibilities. The upside? 5. Online dating. If a love match is what you seek, there's never been a better time to get on the Internet. Match.com, Yahoo Personals, and eHarmony.com are some of the largest sites. Brush up on some Online Dating 101 before you log on, and soon you'll meet folks that have probably lived by you your whole life, but you never had the chance to meet.
6. If you're politically active, sign up to promote your favorite candidate. You'll not only meet like-minded individuals, but you'll be reaping the benefits of heated conversations and passionate exchange of ideas. If you're on the fence with your political views, volunteer to get people registered to vote.
7. Look up old pals. Sometimes it merely takes an Internet search to reconnect with long-lost friends. Meet up at the local coffee shop and catch up on their latest activities.
8. Smile and step outside your comfort zone. Sometimes just appearing interested in what's going on around you can get you introduced to someone new. By being happy about life you'll naturally meet people at the grocery store, dry cleaner, and even church. Be open to new possibilities and they will find you.
