The vitamin enriched NaturVet Brewer's Yeast and Garlic tablets sold by Petco are safe for adult dogs and cats alike. However, because of their garlic content, it is not recommended that cats take the tablets regularly.
Ingredients
The most prominent ingredients in the tablets are, as the name implies, yeast and garlic. Other ingredients include beef liver, magnesium stearate, silica aerogel, niacin, thiamine mononitrate, ascorbic acid, stearic acid, riboflavin and peanut butter.
Brewer's Yeast
Brewer's Yeast helps control fleas by creating an odor from the inside out that is unpleasant. It is also beneficial to cats by stimulating the immune system, controlling shedding, and promoting healthy skin.
Garlic
Garlic has been proven to be very effective at eliminating fleas in dogs, and is considered healthy for cats in small quantities. However, too much garlic can cause gastrointestinal complications, red blood cell damage, and other health complications.
Beef Liver
Beef liver is a common ingredient in many pet treats and contains high quantities of vitamins. Flea medications include beef liver as a main ingredient for flavor and nutritional value.
Vitamins
These tablets include high quantities of vitamins to help protect against 'flea anemia,' which is a common cause of death in cats. This condition occurs when a large amount of fleas leave a cat with an inadequate supply of red blood cells.
