Get Certification For Service Dogs

Service dogs are used to serve those with disabilities. For example, they help the disabled by pulling a wheelchair, alerting the owner that someone is at the door or alerting owner that the phone is ringing. They are often called service animals since it isn't only dogs that help serve people with disabilities. The owner of the dog can get a certification through organizations such as Registered Service Dogs and the National Association of Service Dogs after supplying the following items.

Instructions

1. Get a doctor's letter. This letter should contain the recommendation by the doctor that the disabled person needs a service dog.

2. Have your veterinarian write a statement. The veterinarian must state that the service dog is not harmful to others and serves the purpose of serving the owner.

3. Show proof of vaccinations. The dog must have up-to-date vaccinations and the paperwork provided when turning in the application for certification.

4. Fill out the application. Go to the service dog certification website (listed in Resources) and fill out the application to certify the service dog. Fill out owner's name and address along with the dog's name and an email address. Sign that the dog is capable of refraining from barking uncontrollably and that it has a calm nature.

5. Send in a payment. The fee is no more than $50.

6. Receive an ID card within a couple weeks after sending in the paperwork. Bring this card to restaurants, work, stores, etc., to show proof that your dog is a service dog and that you need its service.
