Draw A Greyhound

Greyhounds are racing dogs that make creative art subjects.

Greyhounds are most commonly known as race dogs. Tall and slender, these dogs are intelligent and well-behaved. Drawing a greyhound can be exciting, as their body structure is different from usual dogs. They aren't as fluffy and heavy bodied as Labradors or German shepherds or a small as a Maltese or a Pomeranian. So grab a pencil and a paper and draw your very own greyhound.

Instructions

1. Draw a circle for the head. Then, sketch lines from under it to show out the neck. The lines must open up into a largish oval, for the body. Draw lines out of the oval to complete the rear end of the body. The circle should approximately be half the size of the oval.

2. Draw the ears of the dog next. The greyhound usually has long, thin ears. Then, draw the muzzle and the jaw. Remember that the greyhound has a longish muzzle, so protrude it out. Add the teeth. An adult greyhound has 42 teeth, but the breed is known for having poor dental health, so an average greyhound has only 13 teeth. Add the nose which is long and thin. Greyhounds have noses which are needle-like in shape, i.e. straight and sharp.

3. Work on the outline of the body. The greyhound is distinguished for its long body, so make sure you give it a sleek and long body. The legs should be long and thin. Make the hind legs look a little slanted. The belly of the dog should be a little curvy and the abdomen area should be more toned.

4. Draw the tail and the paws. The tail should be long and thin, and mostly straight with a slight curve at the end. The paws must be in proportion with the legs and not too large or protruding. Draw the eye, which should be small, yet bright. Draw some patches on the body of the dog. Greyhounds are commonly seen with black patches on their body.

5. Erase the initial pencil marks of the circle, oval and lines drawn as the structural aids. Be careful not to erase out any other detailing at this moment.

6. Color the body of the dog white and fill the patches with black color. You could also draw a collar around the neck of the dog and color it black.
