Private grants are available to small to medium-sized businesses and nonprofit organizations looking for financing to help their business grow, expand, and implement green operations. North Carolina has a range of grant resources available. When searching for grants, a slow-but-steady approach is best, as you research program guidelines and determine which program is right for your funding needs. In some instances, grant funding can be combined.
Instructions
1. Visit the official business link to the U.S. government. Narrow your grant search to North Carolina, which is, presumably, your business' state of operation. The Small Business Loans and Grants Search Tool will help you to find specialized small business grant programs, including private grant funding.
2. Figure which options apply to you, such as, "I'm looking for financing to expand my business or obtain working capital." If you are looking for financing to help with energy efficiency, select this option. Private grants are also available to business owners looking for financing available to women or people with disabilities.
3. Find grant funding for green technologies and processes. The NC Green Business Fund is a grant program set up to help private companies and non-profit organizations create and sustain green business practices. Comply with program guidelines, which indicate only small to medium-sized businesses with 100 or fewer employees need apply.
4. Apply for up to $500,000 dollars as of 2011 and submit your application to the NC Green Business Fund before the program's end date, which is the end of April.
5. Visit your library's grant and non-profit information center or see a library support staff. Common grant resources include film, databases, books and library journals. The State Library of North Carolina and Charlotte Mecklenburg Library offer grant resources to the public.
6. Apply for private grants through the North Carolina Library Association. Funding is available through the NCLA Finance Committee. There is no limit to the number of grants for which you may apply.
