A dragon is a legendary beast resembling a large flying lizard.
According to a study conducted by Dr. Shaun Lawson, director of the Lincoln Social Computing Research Center (LiSC) and Thomas Chesney of the Nottingham University Business School, unanswered questions surround a player's motivations for playing virtual pet games in spite of their commercial success. A number of animals are featured in these virtual pet games, including dogs, cats, fish and even mythical creatures such as dragons.
Dragon Cave
Dragon Cave is a free online game and community where players become trainers who adopt dragons and care for them. The dragons in this game are graphics consisting of sprites which are small pixilated images that grow on a player's scroll. A scroll is the list of a player's game statistics and pet dragons. Different dragon breeds can be collected, though some are discontinued or secret, which makes it challenging to complete a specific set.
Adopted dragon hatchlings grow based on the ratio of unique views, views, clicks and time. Views are obtained each time the image of a pet dragon is viewed, even if one person views the image multiple times. On the other hand, unique views are accumulated similarly, with the exception that one unique view is tallied per person, per egg. A click is awarded when dragon eggs are clicked on and when people view the page containing a dragon's information.
Dragonadopters
Dragonadopters is another free online web site community and game. In this game, players receive a dragon egg and a personal web page, also called a "dragonpage", with the possibility of being awarded more dragon eggs to care for when players raise the first. Dragon species include the Felidragon, Dino, Lizardus, Dark Dragon, Wyvern, Eastern dragon, Furdragon, Western dragon and Pterodragon. Each dragon species is assigned at least one element, such as water or fire, when it hatches.
Dragon levels start at one, the Egg level, and ends with 110, the Ancient Dragon level. Pet dragons are kept happy by visiting them and encouraging other players to visit them. They should also be fed by accessing the dragonpage. Unique visits makes a dragon grow faster.
Pet Dragons
Pet Dragons is a free Facebook application. In this game, players take care of a newly hatched dragon and raise it to become a top fighter, gold collector and hunter. Players use their dragon to battle against other players' dragons, whether friends with them on Facebook or not. A player can ask for help from friends in the event that his dragon is attacked. Gold collected by a player's dragon is used for buying shop items that increases a dragon's attack time, defense and offense.
