Lynx Hunting In Canada

The Canada Lynx is a popular target of hunters because this animal tends to be so far away from civilization. This brings an excitement to hunting when an animal that many hunters may have never even seen before.

The Canadian Lynx

The Canadian Lynx is a large wild cat, similar to a bobcat in nature, although slightly larger. This wild cat isn't on the same level as a cougar, but they live in the same habitat and are hunted in season in Western Canada.

Where

While there is also lynx hunting in Canada around Alberta and Saskatchewan, British Colmbia is the most popular destination for hunters. There are large populations of lynx in the Rocky Mountains in British Colombia, and many hunting lodges willing to give guided tours.

When

The most active lynx hunting in Canada appears to be in British Colombia in January and March. Exact hunting seasons can vary from province to province, so always be sure to check ahead of time where you plan on hunting to make sure you're in accordance with local laws and regulations.

Gear Needed

For lynx hunting you will need warm winter clothes, a normal hunting rifle with scope (stronger than a .22), snow shoes, and a snowmobile. Many lodges provide the snow shoes and snowmobiles.

What About a Toured Hunt?

Taking a toured hunt, or a sponsored lynx hunt is a good way to go if you're new to this type of hunting. Not only can guides help you find the elusive Canadian Lynx, but they will also know the area and help prevent a potential wilderness survival type of situation.

Hard to Find

Lynx are silent ambush predators and have a natural ability to blend in. This is why few hunters have have seen one of these animals.
