Choose a memorial gift for someone who has lost a pet.
For some people, pets are members of the family. Therefore, losing a pet can be an extremely sad experience, especially if the family had the pet for a long time. When someone you are close to loses a pet, consider choosing a gift both to show him how sorry you are for his loss and to honor the relationship he had with his pet.
Marker
Consider having a memorial marker made for the pet your friend lost. If she buried her pet in her yard, choose a marker that she can place on its grave. Have the marker carved with the pet's name and its birth date and death date. If the pet was not buried in the yard, consider choosing a garden stone with the pet's name carved on it.
Picture Frame
A picture frame is another option for a memorial gift for a pet owner. Choose a plain wooden frame from a local craft store, and paint the pet's name on it. When the paint dries, place a picture of the pet and the pet owner, if you have one, inside the frame. The owner can place the picture on her desk or in her home to always remember her pet.
Donation
Give a donation in the pet owner's name to an animal-related nonprofit organization as a memorial gift for the pet. For example, if the pet was adopted from an animal shelter, consider contributing to that shelter. Maybe the pet died of an illness that affects lots of different pets, such as canine hip dysplasia. You could donate to a group that is researching the causes of that disease. Another idea is to give to a group that rescues the type of animal or specific breed that your friend had and helps them find new homes.
Keepsake Box
For some pet owners, throwing away the pet's beloved items can be very difficult. However, looking at them every day around the house can be even worse. Consider giving your friend a keepsake box that she can use for the pet's things. Choose a small wooden box and have the pet's name painted on the outside of it. Your friend can place the pet's collar, leash, comb, favorite toys and any other items that she can't throw away inside the box.
