Become A Foster Parent In Hartford Connecticut

More than 4000 Connecticut children are in foster care, according to CAFAP.

Providing for a child's physical and mental well being is a challenge for many parents. Giving the same effort for a foster child requires even more effort for adults. To become a foster parent in Hartford, Connecticut, one must be licensed. The process of becoming licensed for foster care in Connecticut is similar to most other states.

Instructions

1. Contact the Connecticut Department of Children and Families (DCF) to receive information. Use the agency's toll-free number, 888-543-4376. You may also receive information by filling a form out on the Connecticut DCF website.

2. Attend an open house to learn about foster care. The open house is usually held at the Hartford DCF office or other area DCF offices. DCF Representatives provide information about foster parenting. Interested parties may begin a preliminary background check.

3. Complete an in-home interview. A representative from DCF will visit with you about issues surrounding foster care. This visit will ensure that the family is prepared for the challenges of foster care and that the house provides a safe environment.

4. Attend Parent Resources for Information, Development and Education (PRIDE) Training. This training consists of 10 class sessions and may be completed in five or 10 weeks. Completion of this course is a part of the evaluation for becoming a licensed foster-care provider in Connecticut.

5. Complete a background check and further in-home assessment. The assessor certifies all licensing regulations are met to issue the foster-care license.

6. Receive license from Connecticut DCF. It may take up to 10 weeks after the completion of the PRIDE Training for the license to be issued.
