Originally a Labrador retriever and standard poodle mix, labradoodles are now a distinctive breed of dogs. Affectionate, energetic, friendly and easy to train, labradoodles are a good choice for active individuals or families with children. To ensure that you adopt a healthy labradoodle, select your puppy from a reputable breeder or find a mature dog through a labradoodle rescue organization.
Instructions
1. Get in touch with labradoodle breeders in your part of the country and ask if they have a litter of puppies available now or if they expecting one in the near future. Dog breeders tend to keep in contact with one another, so if the breeder you speak to does not have any puppies he or she will probably be able to refer to other breeders who do.
2. Consult the website of the Australian Labradoodle Club of America, an organization dedicated to maintaining high breeding standards. The club's website lists more than 50 labradoodle breeders that have qualified for membership.
3. Adopt a labradoodle from a rescue organization such as The Doodle Rescue Collective. Such organizations are usually operated by volunteers who care for individual dogs in their own homes until someone comes forward to adopt the animal. Photographs and profiles of available dogs are posted on the rescue organization's website. There is an application process and a fee for adopting a dog through a rescue organization.
