Church Orphan Adoption Display Ideas

There are many older children waiting for placement in loving homes.

Churches are often very instrumental in promoting the concept of adoption to their congregations. There are several effective methods of presenting adoption services to parishioners in a positive manner. There are so many children who need and want a good home and a loving family that the more creative the methods are, the better the chances may be that some child may find himself in his forever home.

Picture Displays

If there is a talented photographer in the congregation, he may be persuaded to utilize his skills to take pictures of children available for adoption (with the agency's permission) and display them for the entire congregation to view. A short synopsis with a description of the child, his age, interests, disability level and the child's own view of an ideal family could also be included.

The pictures could also be procured from the adoption agency if necessary. Many churches and other charitable organizations sponsor "Heart Gallery" showings which feature pictures of available children taken by professional photographers with the added details and descriptions of the children.

Videos

Showing videos of children available for adoption is a very effective manner of allowing prospective families to view the children without actually meeting them. Also, taped success testimonials from adoptive families are very impacting and inspirational to those considering adding children to their family. The footage could be looped to continue showing for a specified amount of time with extra pamphlets and other information also readily available. Having representatives from the various adoption agencies available would also be very informational and effective.

Children's Art Gallery

Artwork by the individual children can also be displayed. Paintings, drawings, photography and simple sculptures are great methods of gaining insight into what a child is like. Sometimes the children can only express themselves through their art and prospective parents can get a feel for the personality of a specific child through his handicrafts. This artwork can also be auctioned off to raise money for adoption charities and to provide equipment and necessities for specific children's homes.

Books on Adoption

There are many wonderful books on adoption for prospective adoptive families. Some excellent choices would include "No Biking in the House Without a Helmet" by Melissa Faye Green and "20 Things Adoptive Parents Need to Succeed" by Sherrie Eldridge. These books give true, inspiring and sometimes humorous insights into what the experience of adopting a child will be like. A church can display these books for parishioners to review and maybe even borrow to give them firsthand and factual information on adoption.
