Report a Stray Animal to Louisville Metro Animal Services
Louisville Metro Animal Services in Louisville, Kentucky is the city's government agency responsible for rescuing stray animals and for pet licensing. It is open every day of the year, including holidays. If you see a stray animal that you want to report to the agency, you can contact Louisville Metro Animal Services and request that they send an officer to your location to retrieve the animal.
Instructions
1. Call the agency's hot line. Dial (502) 363-6609 to speak with a staff person. You will need to provide a description of the animal and inform the staff person whether the animal has a collar or some other form of visible identification. He will ask you to provide the nearest address of the animal's location.
2. Restrain the animal, if possible. During your call, the staff person will ask if you are able to restrain the animal. Restraining the animal will ensure that the animal is rescued when the officer arrives. Do not restrain the animal if it appears aggressive or ill.
3. Keep an eye on the animal until an officer arrives. Regardless of whether you can restrain the animal, keep watch over the animal so that you can describe to the officer where the animal is and the animal's behavior.
4. Provide identification and sign a release. Once an officer arrives and takes the animal, she will ask you to sign a release form that officially relinquishes your "custody" of the animal to Louisville Metro Animal Services. The officer will also ask for a valid form of identification and will record your address.
5. Post "Lost Pet" flyers, if possible. The officer will request that you post "Lost Pet" flyers in your neighborhood informing the community that an animal was found and was taken to the agency's shelter. The officer will explain that the local newspaper, the "Courier-Journal," will post a classified ad for you for a discount or nominal fee.
