Make Dry Cat Food At Home

Make Dry Cat Food at Home

If you worry about commercial dry cat food harming your cat's health, make your own at home. Recalls of pet food happen often, and the food we often feed our cats ends up actually deteriorating their health. Common ingredients found at your local grocery store will help you to make your own cat food that your kitty will appreciate. Homemade cat food often requires refrigeration to ensure its quality. You can also freeze the food if you do not have the time to make cat food.

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

2. Add all the dry ingredients to a mixing bowl. Combine 3 cups of whole wheat flour, 2 cups of soy flour, 1 cup of wheat germ, 1 cup of cornmeal, 1 cup of nonfat dry milk and ½ cup of brewer's yeast in the bowl and sift together.

3. Place the mackerel in another bowl. Break it down into small pieces. Then add the vegetable oil, cod liver oil and water.

4. Place the mackerel into the dry ingredients. Stir until all the ingredients mix well.

5. Remove the dough from the bowl with your hands. Use a rolling pin to roll it out to ¼-inch thick.

6. Cut the dough into ¼-inch pieces or bits with a pizza cutter. Add non-stick spray to a cookie sheet. Place the bits onto the cookie sheet.

7. Bake the dry cat food for 25 minutes. Stir the cat food every 7 to 10 minutes to ensure that they brown evenly.

8. Remove the cat food from the oven. Allow them to cool completely on the cookie sheet before removing them. Store the cat food in an airtight container in the refrigerator until you are ready to feed your cat.
