Animal Care For People On Disability In Michigan

Disabled people in Michigan can hand in their pets to animal care for people on disability in Michigan.

Inadequate care for animals may lead to reduced immune response, health problems, aggression, injury and death. Some people deliberately abuse animals, but others may just need assistance in taking care of them. If you are disabled and need help caring for your pet, animal shelters in Michigan can help you.

Feline Outreach

Feline Outreach (felineoutreach.org) is a charitable institution campaigning for proper care of animals, especially cats. It also provides financial assistance to pet owners for unanticipated expenses like routine care, medical care and vaccinations. Application for financial assistance is based on the amount needed and the applicant's financial stability. Feline Outreach also provides interest-free loans.

Pet Support Services

Pet Support Services (petsupportmi.org) provides services at little or no cost at all. Some of the services they offer are food delivery, safety education, pet care training, financial assistance and many more. It is the only organization that offers adoption assistance in Michigan. In the event that the pet owner can no longer keep their pets because of disability, the institution will take the pet. There are just a few requirements to determine eligibility of taking its services, such as proof of disability or medical condition.

Cascades Humane Society

The Cascades Humane Society (cascadeshumanesociety.org) program assists pet owners by providing a food supplement to qualified owners. Application requirements are Jackson County residency and participation in any state or federal assistance program. Your income must also be within the required amount. Upon approval, you must pick up the food from 11AM to 3PM every third Sundays of the month and show proper identification. To apply for the food assistance program, you may fill out the application form online and bring the accomplished form at Cascades Humane Society.

Humane Society of South Central Michigan

This shelter has a limited-admission facility and prioritizes homeless animals. The Humane Society of South Central Michigan (hs-scm.org) may still accept surrendered pets from owners for a minimal fee if you live in Washtenaw, Canton and Plymouth Counties. Animal intake may be done from Monday through Sunday.
