Government Grants For Animals

Government Grants for Animals

There are numerous grants from private foundations that aid animal-related organizations or research. Most such grants focus on the rescue and rehabilitation of wild animals to preserve their status in nature. Others help local animal shelters or aid researchers in their work with animals. However, if an animal organization or charity cannot find a grant suitable for its needs, a government grant may be available instead.

Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program

The Wildlife Habitat Incentive Program grant is for those developing and improving various wildlife habitats. This particular funding is available to owners, landlords, operators or tenants of lands eligible to be wildlife habitats. The funds may be used for restoring damaged land, removing obstructions and improving quality of land or plant control. Habitats for endangered species or other special wildlife are given priority.

Animal Health and Disease Research

The Animal Health and Disease Research grant is given by the Department of Agriculture to increase research activities at veterinary schools and agricultural experiment stations. Either can apply for this grant if they have a proven background of animal research. The grant may be used for research to improve the health of animals, control or treat disease, improve productivity of agricultural animals and protect human health from animal diseases.

Great Apes Conservation

The Great Apes Conservation grant provides funds for projects relating to the research and conservation of the great apes. It can be used in any country worldwide as long as the local government supports the ongoing project and by any individual or entity that is experienced with great ape conservation is eligible. Funds can be used to restore and manage great ape populations, research their habitats and provide wildlife education to locals about conservation.

Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fund

States or territories looking to develop programs for the conservation of endangered species can get funding from the Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fund. This grant allows state agencies to survey, research, monitor, restore and manage endangered species. The endangered species in focus should be listed officially under agreements in the proposed area of protection.

Wildlife Restoration

The Wildlife Restoration grant supports projects that manage wildlife populations and the public use of such populations through services such as hunter safety programs. State fish and wildlife agencies are eligible for this grant as long as the state has passed conservation-related laws. Funds can be used to improve wildlife habitats, survey animal populations and provision populations for public use.
