Visit The Alabama Gulf Coast

Visit the third coast of the United States, the Emerald Coast on the Gulf of Mexico. Find Gulf Shores, Alabama for a great weekend or week long vacation. Gulf Shores faces the Mississippi Gulf, has green water and is a high energy place to vacation. Although the coast was hit hard by Hurricane Katrina, it has recovered and is new again. You can find a luxury condo, a beach cottage or a motel for your stay. Enjoy the white sand beaches. Swim, sail, or just lie on a beach chair. Find a honky tonk and live like the locals. No matter your pleasure, Gulf Shores will provide a good time.

Instructions

Visit the Alabama Gulf Coast

1. Drive down US 59 through Foley, Alabama, where you will find Lambert's Cafe III, The Only Home of Throwed Rolls. Waiters really do toss homemade rolls to customers and scoop out fresh vegetables on freezer paper.

2. Stick to US 59 and see that the closer to Gulf Shores you get, the busier it gets.Thousands turn in every year to eat at Lulu's at Homeport Marina, operated by Lucy Buffet, musician Jimmy Buffet's sister. It's about as close to a 'parrothead' headquarters as a restaurant can be and sells almost 50,000 margaritas each year.

3. Tour the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo. After Hurricanes Ivan (2004) and Katrina (2005) hit, a parrot was taught to respond to the question: "What do you do when a hurricane is coming?" His answer: "Row, row, row your boat."

4. Find new condos in Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. The wharf has a marina, fishing, golf course, restaurants, a Ferris wheel and the Oasis with three pools, water falls, a beach and an island with hammocks. You can hear nationally known performers there at a 10,000 seat amphitheater.

5. For those who wish to explore the natural scene, Captain Skip Beebe of Sailaway Charters will take you on a beach walk on Saturdays and Sundays. You will learn the highlights of the area's coastal ecosystems.
