Surrendering a domain name can usually be done in a few hours.
If your domain name infringes on a company's established trademark, you may need to surrender the domain name. To surrender the domain name, the company that made the complaint will have to initiate a domain transfer request through your domain registrar. Once you approve the request, the domain name will then be registered under the new owner and you will have to find a new domain name for your website.
Instructions
1. Log into your user account at the company that registered your domain name.
2. Remove the "registrar lock" on your domain name if it has been enabled. This lock prevents unauthorized transfers of your domain name. The process for removing the lock will vary from one registrar to another, but in most cases you can unlock the domain yourself using the account management options. Some registrars require that you submit an email request to them so they can verify the request before they will unlock the domain.
3. Make sure that the email address listed for the domain owner is correct. You will receive a domain transfer request at that email address.
4. Approve the domain transfer request once you receive it by email. The transfer of ownership will be carried out by the domain registrar service of the new owner once it receives your permission. Your domain registrar also may require you to verify the transfer authorization.
