If you are a fan of exotic fish and aquariums you should invest in a saltwater aquarium. The pleasure you'll get from your fish makes a saltwater tank worth the trouble involved in setting it up.

Instructions

1. Check the tank for leaks.

2. Clean the tank with a solution of 1 tsp. pure bleach for every 5 gallons of water. Scrub the tank, plastic plants, decorations and rocks. Rinse everything thoroughly several times with clean water.

3. Install the filtration system. Follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully since models vary in their installation.

4. Wash the substrate thoroughly before you put it in the tank. Figure on 1 lb. of gravel per gallon the tank holds.

5. Put the plants in, anchoring the bottoms in the substrate.

6. Fill a large bucket with clean, dechlorinated water.

7. Using a hydrometer (a device used to read how much salt is dissolved in the water), add salt. Your goal is a specific gravity between 1.020 and 1.023.

8. Fill your tank with the saltwater, leaving about an inch at the top.

9. Start the filter system.

10. Add the heater and thermometer. Most marine fish do best between 75 and 80 degrees.

11. Let everything run for at least 72 hours and get the temperature settings right and the water moving.

12. Cycle the aquarium. A just-set-up fish tank lacks the bacteria that it needs to form a steady biological cycle.

13. Add your fish when the chemical levels are all okay and the tank temperature is within suggested limits.

14. Buy a powerhead. In saltwater aquariums, water movement is an absolute must. Be careful not to get one so big that it causes a whirlpool effect.

15. Get a protein skimmer, which is a necessity for marine tanks. This removes organic debris from the water before it has time to convert to nitrates.

16. Keep in mind that you'll also need an external water pump and possibly an air pump for your skimmer.

Children who are adopted in Oklahoma have a legal right to educate themselves about their past. The Oklahoma Department of Human Services is required by law to share medical and social records with the adoptive parents. OKDHS will also locate relatives of the child being adopted. Under certain circumstances, people who have been adopted and are 18 years or older may file a written request for a non-certified copy of their birth certificate.

Consent

Birth parents must give consent before their child can be adopted.

In order for adoptions to be legal in Oklahoma, there must first be consent by the parties involved. Both birth parents of the child must consent to the adoption of their child. If one of the birth parents has passed away, the other must give consent. If one or both parents have had their parental rights terminated, consent from them is not necessary. Any agency that has legal custody of a child must consent to a couple adopting said child. Any child over the age of 12 must give consent before being adopted.

Animal cruelty laws are legal regulations designed to prevent unnecessary and inhumane treatment of animals, be they wild, domestic or agricultural. Like all the other states in the U.S., Florida has its own cruelty to animals legislation.

General Misdemeanor

A person is guilty of a misdemeanor in the third degree if they unnecessarily overload, overdrive, torment, deprive of necessary sustenance or shelter, or unnecessarily mutilate, or kill any animal, or cause the same to be done. They are also guilty if they carry any animal in or upon any vehicle in a cruel or inhumane manner.

General Felony

A person in the state of Florida is guilty of a third-degree felony if they intentionally commit an act against any animal which results in the cruel death, or excessive or repeated infliction of unnecessary pain or suffering, or causes the same to be done by someone else.

Fighting

There is also legislation concerning the use of animals in "baiting", to attack with violence, to provoke, or to harass an animal with one or more other animals for the purpose of training that animal for fights with other animals. Using animals for fighting, owning an establishment that is used for animal baiting or promoting and charging for an event which involves baiting are all felonies of the third degree. Attending a baiting event or betting on one are defined as first-degree misdemeanors.

Confinement and Abandonment

A person in Florida is guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree if they confine any animal in any place and fail to supply the animal during that confinement with a sufficient quantity of good and wholesome food and water, if they keep any animal in any enclosure without wholesome exercise and change of air, or abandon to die any animal that is maimed, sick, infirm, or diseased

Slaughter

The Florida legislature requires that all slaughter of livestock and the handling and transportation of livestock in connection with slaughter be done in accordance with the regulations contained in the Federal Humane Slaughter Act of 1958. However, ritual slaughter performed within legitimate religious practices is exempted from this provision.

Debate

There remains some debate about how the wording of the Florida animal cruelty statutes should be applied, particularly with regard to how far the terms of the legislation extend, and whether there are different standards for domestic pets and for agricultural animals. In 2009 the "Palm Beach Post" reported on the vagueness of the laws, saying that the wording on the statute book did not sufficiently define "humane". For instance, under the terms of the legislation, stepping on a cockroach could be considered cruel. Furthermore, they highlight discrimination among species, where two men were prosecuted for pouring detergent into a pond and killing fish, but no action was taken against a farmer who let thousands of chickens starve to death.

Manx cats come from the Isle of Man, which is how they inherit their name. Anybody coming from the Isle of Man may be referred to as a Manx. They are a very energetic and intelligent cat and are quite striking as many of them carry a genetic mutation which results in a stubby tail or a lack of one all together! This genetic mutation unfortunately makes the Manx predisposed to birth defects, bowel, bladder, and spinal problems. Manx cats are often classified based on the lengths of their tails. The Dimple or Rumpy is the cat with no tail at all and is most often sought after in show cats of that breed. Because not all Manx cats are missing their tails, this is not an effective indicator of the breed. This guide will show you recognize a Manx cat.

1. Look at the body type. Manx cats have short bodies, arched backs, and rounded hindquarters. All Manx cats have hind legs that are longer than their forelegs, giving them a permanent arched look. They should also be no more than twelve pounds. They are a medium sized cat.

2. Look at the cat's coat. The Manx cat exhibits two coat lengths. The short-haired Manx cat has a double coat with a thick, short under-layer and a longer, coarse outer-layer with guard hairs.

3. Watch the way the cat walks. Manx cats don't walk so much as hop like a rabbit. This is the result of a mutation in their genetics which results in a shortened spine. Even the spine of Manx cats possessing normal tails are shorter than it should be.

4. Study the cat's head. Their ears are medium to medium small in size and are set far to the sides of the head. The head itself is rounded and slightly longer than it is wide. If the cat meets this criteria than you're most likely looking at a Manx.

For breedings to be considered official, some registries require stallion reports.

Stallion breeding reports are required by a number of different breed registries. A stallion breeding report is effectively a list of all the mares that the stallion has been exposed to during the year. All mares should be listed on the list, regardless of their registration status or whether or not a foal was actually conceived during the exposure. Breed registries use stallion breeding reports to keep up with the breedings between different horses and to authenticate the bloodlines of foals that are eligible for registration.

Instructions

1. Locate and download the official stallion breeding reports for all registries with which your horse is registered to breed. Some registries, such as the Appaloosa Horse Club, allow cross-breeding with specific other breeds. A Quarter Horse or Thoroughbred stallion that is breeding with Appaloosa mares for registrable offspring will still have to have a stallion report filed.

2. Fill out the stallion breeding report. Reports require you to enter the stallion's full name and registration information, the full name and registration information of every mare he was bred to, the dates of the breedings and the names of recorded owners of all horses involved. Each stallion report has specific blanks listed for all information; make a list and write in the answers, column by column, as requested.

3. Submit the stallion reports to the appropriate registries with all accompanying fees. Fees and dates will vary by the registry, so it is important to be aware of the due date during the early months of the year to avoid paying late fees for not submitting the stallion report on time. November 30th is a standard date for many of the registries including the American Quarter Horse Association, American Paint Horse Association and Appaloosa Horse Club. The vast majority of stallion reports include the address to where they need to be sent.

Emergency rescue procedures involve humans, horses, sewers, buses, power tools and school children. Each emergency situation, whether a bus crash or a person in cardiac arrest trapped in a sewer, requires its own set of emergency rescue guidelines. Emergency rescue procedures are designed to save the maximum number of lives with minimal injury. The procedures for an emergency rescue exist not just for rescue personnel like police officers and fire fighters, but everyone involved in the situation, including the victims.

Confined Space Rescue

The Environmental Health & Safety Department at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania has a specific set of guidelines for confined space emergency rescue procedures. If someone is stuck in a confined space, be it a duct or a sewage system, a health and safety officer is to call 911 and stay in contact with the stuck person. In the event of non-threatening injuries, the officer is to take no action until the 911 emergency response team arrives. However, if the person has suffered a heart attack, cannot breathe, or is otherwise at risk of death, the health and safety officer will use a tripod with an attached cable and pulley to extract the person from the confined space, and tend to that person until an ambulance arrives on the scene.

School Bus Rescue

At the behest of the National Transportation Safety Board, the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services created a 72-page document detailing the proper emergency and rescue procedures regarding school buses. The document suggests that when children are stuck in a school bus in an emergency and must be rescued via evacuation, the roof of the bus should be cut, because smashing the windows will shower the children with glass, and school bus windows are too small for multiple, simultaneous evacuations. Air vents on the roof can also be used for emergency rescue, and are equipped with exterior releases for easy entry. Most school buses are equipped with seat-belt cutting knives, for children who are stuck.

Equine Rescue

A consortium of veterinarians and scientists produced "Effectively Perform Emergency Rescue of Equines," which details proper emergency rescue procedures for horses in a number of situations. Materials needed include rescue-grade web and rope and a polygrid fence, which can be used to contain the horse after rescue. Most horse emergency rescue procedures, from pulling animals from mud pits to extracting them from fallen or flaming trailers, involve harnesses, ropes, and cranes. Placing a harness underneath a horse and attaching it to a crane can pull the animal from mud pits and similar traps. 1. Goldfish can live together, but betta fish must live separately as they will fight.

Fill glass bowls with tepid water two inches from the rim of each bowl. Place one or two drops of water conditioner in each bowl to remove chlorine and any impurities that may harm the fish. Rinse the decorative rocks or marbles under running water and measure one or two cups of rocks for each bowl. Pour the rocks or marbles into the bowls for decoration.

2. Bamboo stalks provide a natural habitat for fish as roots grow under water.

Rinse bamboo stalks under tepid water. Place one lucky bamboo stalk in each bowl. The stalks provide a decorative water plant as well as a hiding shelter for fish.

3. Betta fish are from Thailand, Malaysia and Cambodia.

Gently place one betta fish in each bowl. Male betta fish are extremely colorful, which makes them a popular choice as pets. However, male bettas, also known as Siamese fighting fish, typically fight to the death and therefore should not inhabit the same bowl. If you're giving goldfish, you may safely choose to place two fish in each bowl. Allow the fish to acclimate for two hours before feeding them.

4. Goldfish typically surpass the five-year betta fish life span.

Feed the betta or goldfish one flake of food after two to three hours of acclimation. Place the bowls of fish on the wedding tables for elegant centerpieces and inform guests they may take the fish home as favors.

5. Write care instructions on note cards and place a card next to a bowl on each table. Recommend a weekly water change with water conditioner additive as well as a small daily pinch of food flakes for gold fish. Recommend the same instructions for betta fish and add an option for feeding betta fish a small pinch of dried worm once a week for color enhancement. The younger the squirrel and the less exposure to the wild, the more easily it will trust you and adapt to life as a house pet. A full-grown squirrel that is used to life in the wild would probably be a destructive and untrusting pet, and it could attack or bite you to get away.

2. Buy a ferret cage or a large bird cage to house the squirrel in. Most ferret cages are spacious enough so that the squirrel doesn't feel too confined, and many also have built-in levels that allow the animal to run up and down and climb as it would in the wild. Furnish the cage with a wooden box or a nesting box, which gives the squirrel a place to hide and take cover in if it wants to sleep or if it senses danger. You can also put in a old T-shirt for the squirrel to sleep on, plus a tree branch or two to make the squirrel feel more at home. Keep the cage high enough off the ground so that other pets can't disturb or frighten the squirrel.

3. Give the squirrel toys and other objects to play with to keep it entertained and occupied. You can install a pet hammock in the cage, along with plastic balls or small plastic dog or cat toys to chew on and play with. You can take your squirrel out of its cage to pet it and play with it, but make sure that no doors or windows are open that the squirrel could escape through. Never leave the squirrel out of its cage and unattended, as it could become lost or destroy things such as pillows and furniture.

4. Feed your squirrel a balanced diet of rodent blocks, corn, and fresh fruits and vegetables and water. Squirrels love to chew on rodent blocks and get most of their daily vitamins and nutrients from them. You can also feed your squirrel dried corn pellets and fresh corncobs, as well as sunflower seeds, unsalted peanuts, walnuts, almonds and other nuts either in the shell or out. Fruits and vegetables, which can include grapes, melons, cucumbers, carrots, peppers, apples and cherries are also essential to a squirrel's diet. Always have a bowl or water bottle full of clean, fresh water for your squirrel.

5. Line the cage with a thick layer of newspaper, and change it every other day or as needed. Some squirrels become "litter trained" and will defecate or urinate in only one corner of the cage. If you notice your squirrel going in one certain spot repeatedly, put an few extra scraps of newspaper in that corner or even try a small heap of cat litter.
